Around the nation: Why Adventist Health System is changing its name

Daily Briefing

Adventist Health System announced Tuesday that it is rebranding to AdventHealth, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Florida, Maryland, and Minnesota.

    • Florida: Adventist Health System announced Tuesday that the system will change its name to AdventHealth in January 2019. CEO Terry Shaw said the rebranding represents the health system's shift to a more "consumer-focused" system (Kacik, Modern Healthcare, 8/14).
    • Maryland: Johns Hopkins Medicine developed a first in-the-nation list of opioid prescription guidelines for 20 common procedures. The guidelines, created by a panel of health care providers and patients, include recommended restrictions on the number of opioids physicians prescribe for invasive and noninvasive surgeries (Cook, Becker’s Hospital Review, 8/14).
    • Minnesota: Universal Hospital Services (UHS) will become a subsidiary of a new combined company Agiliti following a public merger with Federal Street Acquisition Corp. Members of the UHS' executive team will continue in their current positions. The deal is valued at $1.74 billion, according to a news release (Grayson, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, 8/13).
