- Illinois: Krista Ryan, a cardiac nurse at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, saved Henry Gnaidek's life after he had a heart attack and collapsed while running on a treadmill at his local gym. Ryan performed CPR, then hooked Gnaidek up to an AED machine until paramedics arrived and took Gnaidek to the hospital, where he had a stent placed in his heart to clear two blocked arteries (CBS Chicago, 6/27).
- Kentucky: State health officials confirmed on Wednesday that the hepatitis A outbreak in Kentucky—which has affected at least 969 people—is the worst recorded outbreak of the virus in the country. According to Dave Langdon, a spokesperson for the Louisville Metro Public Health Department, three of the six deaths associated with the outbreak so far have been in Louisville, where the virus was first detected (AP/Sacramento Bee, 6/28).
- Minnesota: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota named Craig Samitt president and CEO, effective July 30. Samitt most recently served as the EVP and chief clinical officer of Anthem and previously served as a partner and practice leader at Oliver Wyman, a management consulting firm. Samitt succeeds Kathleen Blatz, who became the interim president and CEO after Michael Guyette left the company to lead VSP Global (Grayson, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, 6/28).
