    • North Carolina/Ohio: After 28-year-old Ashley Spencer went into anaphylactic shock midflight on Saturday, Cleveland Clinic doctor Erich Kiehl—with the help of another doctor from Duke University—administered Spencer's two EpiPens and albuterol inhaler. Spencer was on her way to Cleveland Clinic for treatment regarding her a rare autoimmune disorder that makes her more susceptible to allergies. Spencer said she suspects the chips she had eaten before the flight had been cooked in peanut oil, triggering the allergic reaction (Bever, "To Your Health," Washington Post, 5/7; Osborne, ABC News, 5/7; Shaw, ABC15, 5/7).

    • Texas: Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel was hospitalized in Humble on Monday due to a "reaction" to a prescription for bipolar disorder, Manziel disclosed on Instagram. According to Denise Michaels, a spokesperson for Manziel, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback is now doing "fine" (ESPN, 5/8).

    • Virginia: The American Hospital Association (AHA) on Sunday officially invested Nancy Agee as its next chair. Agee is the president and CEO of the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke. AHA represents about 5,000 hospitals and about 43,000 members throughout the United States (Paavola, Becker's Hospital Review, 5/8).
