Around the nation: Vatican approves Cabell-Huntington deal with St. Mary's

Daily Briefing

St. Mary's Medical Center will keep its name and retain its Catholic affiliation, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Illinois, Massachusetts, and West Virginia.

    • Illinois: Ascension will appoint its first chief digital officer this year, the system on Monday told Modern Healthcare. Ascension CEO Anthony Tersigni would not disclose the name of the executive, but the person will come from a major publicly traded company, according to Modern Healthcare. Ascension is undergoing a major restructuring that involves changing executive roles (Kacik, Modern Healthcare, 3/26).
    • Massachusetts: Nantucket Cottage Hospital is building a new $89 million hospital building in Nantucket. According to officials, it is the only new hospital under construction in the state. The new facility is being built next to the old one, which will be shut down when the facility is in operation. Construction on the new building is set to be finished by the end of the year (Lagasse, Healthcare Finance News, 3/26).

    • West Virginia: The Vatican has approved Cabell Huntington Hospital's acquisition of St. Mary's Medical Center. St. Mary's will keep its name and retain its Catholic affiliation once the ownership is transferred (AP/Sacramento Bee, 3/26).
