Around the nation: Doctor celebrates 7,000th baby delivered

    Doug Gates of New Horizons OB/GYN in Carbondale, Illinois, delivered his 7,000th baby earlier this month, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from California, Illinois, and Tennessee.

    • California: Doctors Hospital of Manteca has named Brandon May its next CEO. May previously worked at Providence East Campus Hospital in Texas and has served as CFO of Westlake Hospital in Illinois (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 3/23).

    • Illinois: Doug Gates of New Horizons OB/GYN in Carbondale celebrated his 7,000th baby delivery earlier this month. Gates has kept notes on every single birth, and he said he typically provides care for about 300 births each year (O'Dell, Southern Business Journal, 3/25).

    • Tennessee: Best Buy has donated more than $20 million to St. Jude Children's Hospital after a 12-week fundraising campaign. According to Becker's Hospital CFO Report, Best Buy's donation could provide treatment for nearly 70 patients with acute-lymphoblastic leukemia, or cover 2,000 CT scans, 3,000 days of ICU care, or nearly 13,000 days of chemotherapy (Paavola, Becker's Hospital CFO Report, 3/23).
