Around the nation: Mount Sinai to launch members-only neighborhood clinic

Daily Briefing

The health system is partnering with a neighborhood on Manhattan's West Side to run a clinic for people who live and work in the area, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from Illinois, Minnesota, New York, and Wisconsin.

    • Illinois/Wisconsin: Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care have named a 15-person board to lead the combined health system if the merger is approved. The merger, announced last year, is currently pending regulatory approval. The leadership team of the merged entity would include: Advocate's Dominic Nakis as CFO; Advocate's Bill Santulli as COO; Advocate's Lee Sacks as CMO; and Aurora's Mary Beth Kingston as CNO (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 3/12).

    • Minnesota: Minnesota Wild center Eric Staal and mascot Nordy visited St. Paul Children's Hospital on Monday. During the visit, the hockey star autographed hats, posed for pictures, and played floor hockey with patients. Andy Caldwell, whose son is a patient at the hospital, said, "When you have the likes of Eric Staal and all that coming in, the team players, you feel like you're not forgotten" (Hudson, WCCO, 3/12).

    • New York: Mount Sinai Health System is teaming up with the Hudson Yards neighborhood on Manhattan's West Side to open a members-only clinic for people who live or work in the neighborhood. The center will have an on-call medical team, and will also provide home and office visits, follow-up care coordination, prescription delivery services, and alternative and physical therapies. When patients need offsite treatment, navigators will refer them to Mount Sinai locations. The clinic, which will be located in a residence and office complex, is set to open early next year (Haefner, Becker's Hospital Review, 3/12).
