President Trump is reportedly eating a healthier diet on advice from White House doctor Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson, mostly swapping out fast food for salads and fish for red meat, according to sources close to the matter, Jennifer Jacobs and Shannon Pettypiece write for Bloomberg.
At his first presidential physical in January, Trump weighed in at 239 pounds and 6 feet, 3 inches tall. His weight makes him just one pound short of classifying as obese, according to guidelines from CDC. As a result, Jackson advised the president to eat less fat and carbohydrates and to exercise regularly.
According to three people familiar with the matter, the president has "embraced the new regimen," and appearred to be "thriving" on the new diet, Bloomberg reports. One individual said it has been "weeks" since he's seen Trump eat a hamburger—a stark change from how Trump ate during his campaign, with a "trademark" meal of two Big Macs and two Filet-o-Fish sandwiches from McDonald's, along with a chocolate milkshake.
The trend for healthier eating hasn't stopped at Trump either, as Jackson and Jennifer Pena, the doctor to Vice President Mike Pence, are trying to push healthier food choices throughout the administration, Bloomberg reports. But it's not all dieting, all the time: According to Bloomberg, Trump still allows himself the occasional indulgence, eating bacon for breakfast at least once last week (Jacobs/ Pettypiece, Bloomberg, 3/2).
