Around the nation: Geisinger Health System has a new, CEO-inspired menu item—the 'Feinburger'

Daily Briefing
    • North Carolina: Carolinas HealthCare System has named Anthony DeFurio as EVP and CFO. DeFurio previously served as SVP and CFO at University of Colorado Health. He succeeds Greg Gombar, who is retiring (Vaidya [1], Becker's Hospital Review, 9/19).

    • New York: Joseph McDonald, the president and CEO of Catholic Health, announced that he has taken an "out option" on his contract with the health care system in order to retire in early 2018, two years before his contract expires in 2020. McDonald, who cited medical concerns and recent deaths in the family as the reason for his retirement, said he would stay on with the system until a new CEO is selected (Vaidya [2], Becker's Hospital Review, 9/19).

    • Pennsylvania: Geisinger Health System has introduced the "Feinburger," a meatless burger named after president and CEO David Feinberg. The burger comes alongside Geisinger's other healthy eating initiatives, such as imposing sodium caps on the system's "healthy" menu items and a plan to cut all sugary beverages from its facilities by Jan. 1, 2018 (Rege, Becker's Hospital Review, 9/19).
