- Arizona: Iasis Healthcare has selected Jacob Golich to serve as CEO of Mountain Vista Medical Center (MVMC). Golich previously served as interim CEO at MVMC, after working as an administrator at Tempe St. Luke's Hospital and associate administrator and COO at MVMC (Gooch, Becker's Hospital Review, 8/30).
- New York: Dan Fabbio, a 27-year-old musician, earlier this year had a brain tumor removed at the University of Rochester Medicine—while playing a saxophone solo mid-surgery, according to a case study of the surgery published in Current Biology. According to the case study, the musician two years ago was found to have a tumor in the part of the brain linked to musical processing. Fabbio's care team spent six months mapping how his brain processed music prior to the surgery to ensure that the surgical team could remove the tumor while preserving his musical processing skills (Bean, Becker's Hospital Review, 9/1).
- Texas: MD Anderson Cancer Center has selected Peter Pisters, the current president and CEO of University Health Network in Canada, to succeed Ronald DePinho as president. Pisters returns to MD Anderson after working there for 20 years, from 1994 to 2014, including in several leadership positions, such as the medical director of MD Anderson's six regional cancer centers (Modern Healthcare, 9/2).
