The CMIO can perform several vital functions to support the effective use of clinical information systems, but configuring the job correctly is not a simple matter. Ensure that your CMIO can be effective by carefully examining his or her role in your organization. A strong collaborative partnership with the CIO—as well as other senior executives—is more important than the reporting structure.
