Why and how to address health disparities in lung cancer detection

November 4, 2021

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT

    Session Overview

Leaders across the health care industry recognize the need to address inequities in health care but often struggle to make progress. We see disparities in lung cancer screening and, subsequently, cancer outcomes persist. For example, lung cancer mortality is highest among Black men, and five-times higher among the least educated men compared to the highest educated men. Women also have a higher incidence of lung cancer than men.

In this session, we will convene an expert panel to discuss the underlying challenges with inequity in lung cancer care, learn from their experiences, and offer opportunities to meaningful reduce disparities in lung cancer detection.

Facilitated by Advisory Board’s Deirdre Saulet, the panel represents perspectives across the lung cancer ecosystem:

    • Dr. Efren Flores, Officer for Radiology Community Health & Equity, Massachusetts General Hospital
    • Dr. Ann Taylor, former Chief Medical Officer, AstraZeneca
    • Solomon Banjo, Managing Director at Advisory Board, senior researcher diversity in clinical trials and similar topics

    Things you’ll learn:

    • Root causes of inequity and health disparities within lung cancer detection
    • Opportunities and strategies to address inequity in lung cancer screening and detection
    • How leaders in the field have taken action to mitigate health disparities related to lung cancer detection

Presenters: Deirdre Saulet, Solomon Banjo, Dr. Ann Taylor, and Dr. Efren Flores
