Around the nation: Doc to run 5Ks in all 50 states in 50 days for mental health awareness

    Adel Korkor, a physician in Wisconsin who has run over 200 marathons in his life, plans to run a 5K in all 50 states in 50 days to raise awareness for mental illness, in today's bite-sized hospital and health industry news from California, Louisiana, and Wisconsin.

    • California: Verity Health System has named Richard Adcock as its next CEO. Adcock, who previously served as Verity's COO, also has served as the EVP and CIO of Sanford Health in South Dakota, as well as the director of engineering at GE Medical Systems. He will be succeeding Patrick Soon-Shiong, who served as Verity's interim CEO (Vaidya, Becker's Hospital Review, 1/5).

    • Louisiana: Children's Hospital of New Orleans has announced plans to construct a 50-bed Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center as part of a system-wide, $300 million renovation project. The new behavioral health center is expected to be finished in the fall of 2019 (New Orleans Advocate, 1/4).

    • Wisconsin: Adel Korkor, a physician in Wisconsin who has run over 200 marathons, says he plans to run a 5K in all 50 states in 50 days to raise awareness for mental health. Korkor said he's used running in the past to improve his mental health, especially after dealing with anxiety issues, and he wants to spread awareness nationwide (Sharkey, FOX6Now, 1/4).
