- California: Applications are being accepted for the third class of the Cedars-Sinai Accelerator powered by Techstars, which connects health care companies with stakeholders and decision makers at Cedars-Sinai with the goal of making commercial deals. After completing the program, the companies in the first class raised more than $11 million in VC financing, and according to the Techstars blog, the second class—currently in program—is "is showing equally strong potential." The deadline to apply for the upcoming class is June 9, and the next round of the program will start Sept. 12 (Kozlov, Techstars Blog, 3/13).
- Florida/Ohio: Cleveland Clinic Florida on Wednesday announced that it will begin construction later this year on a 7,400-square-foot facility in the Village Green Center in Wellington, Florida. Construction is expected to run from September 2017 to January 2018. The facility will offer primary care, cardiology, gastroenterology, and other specialty services (Reiser, South Florida Business Journal, 5/31).
- Illinois/Minnesota: Mayo Clinic and Baxter International have announced a research and development collaborative aimed at spurring innovation in different therapeutic areas. The collaboration will focus on areas where there is potential to introduce breakthrough treatment and where innovation can promote access to high-quality care. The first project will target kidney diseases. The initial agreement runs five years, with the option for a five-year renewal (Rosin, Becker's Hospital Review, 5/31).
