Get the insights from the Trending Now in Cancer Care Survey
We heard from almost 100 cancer program leaders from a wide range of organizations: 40% of respondents were from non-teaching community hospitals, 35% from academic medical centers, and 20% from teaching hospitals. Here's what they told us.
Preparing for value-based reimbursement top of mind
Unsurprisingly, preparing for value-based reimbursement in oncology was the highest-ranked topic across all respondents. This priority likely reflects the increased pressure on cancer program leaders to reduce the cost of care while improving quality, spearheaded in large part by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation's Oncology Care Model.
As the oncology market continues to consolidate, it's also no surprise that system strategy is top of mind for cancer program leaders across the country. In our 2017 Trending Now in Cancer Care survey, almost half of respondents told us that their cancer program had formed some sort of partnership (e.g., merger, acquisition, affiliation) with another program or practice in the past two years.
Echoing the results from last year's topic poll, cancer patient consumerism was the third most popular research topic this year across all respondents.
How this impacts our 2018-2019 research agenda
We're currently using these results along with feedback from conversations with cancer program leaders across the summer to finalize our research agenda for the next year. Stay tuned!
