Dr. Craig Samitt was recently appointed to the role of Executive Vice President of HealthCare Partners, a subsidiary of DaVita HealthCare Partners, a Fortune 500(R) company. HealthCare Partners manages and operates medical groups and affiliated physician networks in California, Nevada, Florida, Arizona, and New Mexico, and has a vision to become the nation’s pre-eminent physician-directed delivery system as well as the gold standard for delivery of high quality and compassionate population health.
Dr. Samitt has held senior leadership roles in major health care systems for nearly 20 years. From 2006 through 2013, Dr. Samitt was President & CEO of the Dean Clinic, one of the largest integrated delivery systems in the Midwest and one of the nation’s leading examples of a high-performance Accountable Care Organization. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Fallon Clinic (now Reliant Medical Group), as Senior Vice President on the turnaround team of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and as Chief of Medicine and Site Medical Director at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (now Atrius Health).
In May 2012, Dr. Samitt was appointed to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC). Dr. Samitt is widely known for his broad experience across the healthcare industry, and lectures and consults extensively about cultural transformation, accountable care, change management, physician engagement/leadership, payment reform, and the future of healthcare.
Dr. Samitt graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Tufts University, received his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, completed his clinical training at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and earned his MBA from the Wharton School. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, and has been designated as both an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist as well as a finalist for Modern Healthcare’s Top 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare.
