About the Webconference
Inaccurate or incomplete physician documentation can have far-reaching implications on hospital revenue capture, yet hospitals have struggled for years to coach physicians on the subject. Since documentation errors do not directly impact physicians’ own payment, efforts to engage the medical staff in improving record-keeping have often been met with mixed success.
In this webconference, Dr. Jeffrey DiLisi, associate vice president for medical affairs at Virginia Hospital Center, will share strategies for motivating physicians to improve by providing a rationale far more compelling than hospital reimbursement—that is, by clearly illustrating how poor documentation can negatively impact physician quality scores. Specifically, Dr. DiLisi will discuss how the organization:
- Leveraged the Advisory Board’s Crimson Continuum of Care technology to create a clear link between documentation efforts and individual physician quality outcomes
- Initiated a multi-prong documentation improvement program that includes a zero tolerance policy for documentation misses, ongoing physician education, and daily chart review
- Achieved a 9% increase in documented severity of illness and a 38% decrease in observed-to-expected mortality
