Traditional hospital-physician alignment models, such as professional services agreements (PSAs), clinical co-management, and employment, have centered around financial incentives. But some Cancer centers are experimenting with alternative alignment models that promote shared goals without the use of direct financial incentives.

These efforts are based on a compact in which both the physicians and the cancer program commit to specific actions for the benefit of the larger group. This model enables physicians to maintain their independence while securing their engagement in key cancer program initiatives and offers compelling benefits for a wide range of cancer specialists.
