Gender imbalance in radiology is not usually a top-of-mind subject for hospital administrators, practice leaders, and radiologists. Yet over the past few weeks, new research and interviews on gender parity in the field have received widespread attention. With women representing somewhere around 20% of all radiologists in the US by the ACR’s most recent estimate, it isn’t hard to see why the topic is garnering increased attention. Most conversations on gender in the workplace focus on two major questions:
Should we care that women are underrepresented? And if so, what can radiologists, practice leaders, and hospital administrators do about it?
