From 2008 to 2009, respondents overall exhibited strong growth in PET volumes (I'm referring to PET volumes that are performed on either PET scanners or hybrid PET/CT scanners).

As we begin to cull the preliminary results of our 2010 Imaging Volume Trends Survey, I will make some frequent posts across the next few weeks focusing on some interesting findings from the data. Today I will touch on nuclear medicine, a subject of stress for many institutions dealing with the current radioisotope shortage.

CMS Rolls Back Nuclear Cardiology Payment Cuts in MPFS

The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a technical correction to the 2010 Physician Fee Schedule that will increase reimbursement for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI)--both planar and SPECT--cardiac CTs and cardiac catheterizations. All corrections are retroactive to January 1, 2010.
