Reform and Imaging: At Last Some Clarity

With the House's successful vote yesterday on the changes to the reconciliation bill made by the Senate, we now have a final health care reform legislation from which to plan. I wanted to take a few minutes to give my key takeaways on the imaging-specific reforms in the bill.

AJR Study Spotlights Geographic Variation in Imaging Utilization

Imaging overutilization has come under fire in recent health care reform debates from both a cost and safety context. Variation in utilization is one of the prime indicators fueling the debate. A recent study in the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) which examined the variation in imaging utilization that occurs by geographical region provides further evidence.
