About the Webconference

On Feb. 23, 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the much-anticipated proposed rule defining Stage 2, the next chapter of meaningful use. While Stage 2 measures will not be finalized until summer 2012, the proposal gives insight into CMS's intended areas of focus and next steps for eligible hospitals and professionals.

Unsurprisingly, CMS intends to emphasize competencies that go above and beyond what was required in Stage 1, such as care coordination and patient engagement. The proposed rule also provides insight into the payment adjustment—or penalty—phase of the program, and details on who will be exempt come 2015.

This presentation highlights key elements of the proposed rule and the likely challenges providers will face come Stage 2. There is an extended Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

Presenters: Marie Copoulos, Robin Raiford, and Protima Advani
