Mutual trust ensures valid data collection

While individual coordinators may oversee specifi c services, greater oversight is needed for governing the entire quality tracking process. Sentara Healthcare’s interdisciplinary data committee provides this oversight, keeping close tabs on the full spectrum of quality data. The committee requests that each physician sign a confi dentiality contract (see the appendix for the complete confi dentiality contract tool) in which the hospital ensures it will not share physician-specifi c values without explicit approval, and it will maintain appropriate documentation for each data request. In return, physicians strive for accurate charting. These measures improve data accuracy and allow Sentara to gauge where it stands prior to publicly reporting its quality indicators.
