CMS on Friday proposed 2013 payment and policy guidelines for insurers in the Medicare Advantage program and said the changes would bring lower premiums and stable or improved benefits.
The guidelines did not include an official preliminary estimate for the net average percentage change for reimbursement. Analysts said unofficial estimates suggest reimbursement will increase by 2.3%.
CMS said the guidelines suggest an overall annual growth rate of 2.47% and a 2.3% per capita growth rate, but added that those estimates do not account for other variables, including location. Agency officials said they could release a final figure on April 2 (Morgan, Reuters, 2/17).
