Our Culture

Over the past thirty years, we have developed a distinctive corporate culture based our values and principles. These beliefs are not just words on a page to our employees. Eavesdrop on a conversation among Advisory Board teammates--or a performance review, or a planning session--and you're likely to hear phrases such as "running toward criticism" and "the power of language" used with sincerity and even passion.

Two attributes of our culture in particular make the Advisory Board an extraordinary place to work.

Meritocracy

Practically from their first day on the job, employees are entrusted with significant responsibilities, with new challenges and advancement opportunities based upon individual merit and potential, rather than tenure or background.

This meritocracy is central to our business strategy and to our success. Rigorous performance appraisals, robust development plans, opportunities to work in multiple positions, and compelling tracks for promotion support our commitment with operational infrastructure.

Our merit-based advancement philosophy allows talented, motivated individuals to progress in their career exceptionally quickly, unencumbered by rigid expectations of credentials, education, or time-in-seat.

Spirit of Generosity

Just as we strive to serve our members generously and "beyond expectation," we apply the idea of the "Spirit of Generosity" to our dealings with each other as well.

At the Advisory Board, people work closely together to achieve shared goals. We tend to organize into teams, as we find that by laboring together, challenging each other but also supporting each other's efforts, we can achieve more than if we work alone.

We maintain a strong cultural expectation that we help each other out, regardless of reporting relationships or personal ties.  Our successes, both institutional and individual, do not come at the expense of others.

In addition, we provide ways for staff to share their time, talent, and passions in the community. See how we are giving back through hands-on service, board service, and pro bono consulting.

The Advisory Board Company is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
